Function Errors

A number of problems can cause a function to return an error. If an invalid argument is passed into the function, or if a required argument is missing, then the function will return an error.

If Resolution can identify the cause of the error it will return a message detailing the cause. For example, if the following function was entered into Excel an error would be generated because an output flag of 7 is outside the permitted scope (see oBS( ) function):

=oBS(1, "1/2/03", "1/8/03", 98, 100, 0.2, 0.06, 7)

The function will return the following descriptive message: "Invalid value for Flag parameter - use a value between 0 and 6, inclusive."

If Resolution cannot identify the cause of the error, or if the error is a result of something independent of Resolution, a generic error will result. Use the following as a guide:

#Error

An error has occurred within Resolution, but it cannot be identified. Please check that all arguments are correct and contain sensible values.

#Name?

The most likely occurrence of this error is a misspelt function name (e.g. oBSS(....) in the above example). If using the Excel function wizard (Insert->Function) this will never happen.

Another likely occurrence is that Resolution Pro has not been loaded. Please check that the Addin is loaded correctly (simply check that the Resolution menu bar option is available in Excel).

If neither of the above are causing the error, it is likely to be caused by a License Key or Registry Path problem. Please contact enquiry@myhedgebook.com immediately.

#Value!

An error has occurred within Resolution, but it cannot be identified. Please check that all arguments are correct and contain sensible values.

If you are still unsure why an error is occurring, highlight the cell and bring up the Excel function wizard (Insert->Function). If there is an identifiable error, and the function has been correctly spelt, the function wizard will highlight the source of the error. Failing this please contact enquiry@myhedgebook.com.
